It was through Woody, our friend in U.S.A. that we found out about the Ronald McDonald House. We were so eager to join that we turned up at the Ronald McDonald House at the National University Hospital (NUH) just one hour after enquiring about the House on the phone! We signed up immediately and started volunteering the following week. As husband and wife, we have always wanted to do something meaningful together and we are very grateful for the opportunity offered by the Ronald McDonald House Charities
(RMHC) Singapore. We are pretty chatty people and often our voices fill the house and keep the residents engaged. Antonia would round up residents at meal times so we could dine and bond like a family. Patrick, who was injured in a diving accident at a young age and uses a wheelchair, would share his story to motivate the residents during our duty shifts at the House. Through interacting with the residents, we witnessed the healing power of family and friends, and learned how to face adversity with courage and positivity. Our volunteering has given us far more than we have contributed.
