WHO WE ARE
“Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Singapore is a registered society and charity with a simple mission – to directly improve the health and well-being of children in Singapore. We believe that when a child is hospitalised, a family’s love and support is as powerful as the strongest medicine prescribed.
In 1984, the first ever Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) was established in memory of McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc, a strong advocate for both children, and their families. Ray Kroc’s philosophy and belief that every child deserves a strong body and mind is being put into practice across the globe in all RMHC chapters as we provide and care to those who need it most.
First incepted in Singapore as the Ronald McDonald Children’s Charity in 1989, the name of the Charity was changed to Ronald McDonald House Charities Singapore in 2011. Since 1989, RMHC Singapore fulfilled its mission by allocating over S$6 million in support of the Ronald McDonald Family Room at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital as well as the Beneficiaries Programme helping over 900 Singaporean children in medical, surgical and rehabilitation.
In January 2013, with the support of the Khoo Teck Puat – National University Children’s Medical Institute, the very first Ronald McDonald House opened its doors at the National University Hospital (NUH). Aptly named the “House that Love Built,” Ronald McDonald House provides families with a place to rest and stay close to their hospitalised child – all at no cost.
In January 2016, the first Ronald McDonald Family Room opened its doors just steps away from the the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit/High Dependency (PICU/HD) ward at NUH. The Family Room serves families whose children are receiving treatment in the PICU/HD ward and provides them with a place of respite, allowing them to rest and recharge in between caring for their hospitalised children. We believe that by supporting the families, they can in turn take better care of their children. We also believe that families are stronger when they are together, as this spirit of togetherness helps with the overall healing process.
Expanding further into an area that promotes positive mental health, January 2018 marked a significant milestone as we saw the opening of our second Ronald McDonald Family Room, this time at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH). We are grateful for this opportunity to be the first within the APMEA region to set-up a family room in such an environment and we take great joy in knowing that the family room has been well-received by both parents & patients of the IMH.
RMHC Singapore abides strictly to the corporate governance code set by RMHC Global and the local charity council. RMHC Singapore’s finances are independently audited every year in accordance with local regulations.
RMHC Singapore is registered under the Societies Act but not an Institution of Public Character (IPC) at this time. RMHC relies purely on the generosity of Singaporeans and all donors.
We sincerely thank our supporters for their kind support over the years, and hope that you will continue to work with us to improve the health and wellbeings of seriously ill children in Singapore.”
